Special Weather Statement issued April 12 at 4:55AM EDT by NWS State College PA

4:55 AM — 6:00 PM

The combination of drying fine fuels and leaf litter, low relative humidity of around 35 percent and a southerly wind gusting between 20 and 25 mph during the late morning and afternoon hours, will create an elevated risk of wildfire spread across the southern half of Pennsylvania today. Residents are urged to exercise caution if handling any potential ignition sources, such as machinery, cigarettes, or matches. If dry grasses and tree litter begin to burn, the fire will have the potential to spread rapidly. For more information about wildfire danger and wildfire prevention and education, please visit the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources website at http://dcnr.pa.gov/Communities/Wildfire.

About

Nestled on the side of Locust Mountain in Schuylkill County, Locust Lake State Park offers 282 wooded campsites surrounding a 52-acre lake. The campground is divided into two distinct areas: tent-only sites on the north side of the lake, and mixed tent and trailer sites on the south side. The trailer area includes 77 electric sites with 50-amp service and water hookups, plus 125 non-electric sites with water. All campsites feature parking pads, picnic tables, fire rings, and cleared areas for camping equipment. Walk-in sites are also available a short distance from parking areas. The campground provides modern amenities including flush toilets, shower houses, and a sanitary dump station. Three playgrounds are scattered throughout the campground for families. A camp store near the boat launch offers basic food and camping supplies, firewood, bait, and boat rentals. Pets are permitted at designated sites for a fee. The park is currently undergoing facility upgrades, with two shower houses being replaced and several electric sites being upgraded to full hookup services.
