Located at the southwestern edge of Lockhart, Texas, Lockhart State Park offers a quiet retreat within easy driving distance of both Austin and San Antonio. This 263-acre park was built over 80 years ago by the Civilian Conservation Corps and Works Progress Administration, and their handiwork remains visible throughout the property in the form of check dams, a picturesque waterfall, and a historic group recreation hall perched atop a hill with scenic views. The park features two distinct camping areas: the Fairway View Camping Area with 10 full hookup sites accommodating RVs up to 40 feet, and the Clear Fork Creek Camping Area with 10 water and electric sites nestled in a wooded area with large trees along the creek. Both areas provide picnic tables, fire rings, and nearby restrooms with showers. Campers can enjoy year-round fishing for sunfish, catfish, and bass in Clear Fork Creek without needing a fishing license, and explore short interconnected trails including the easy Clear Fork Trail along the creek and the more challenging Persimmon Trail. The park's historic 9-hole golf course welcomes players year-round, while the swimming pool operates from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend. Additional amenities include a park store, dump station, and an all-terrain wheelchair available for reservation. The park is open daily from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., with reservations strongly recommended as the park often reaches capacity.

From Austin: Take Highway 183 South approximately 30 miles to Lockhart. Turn right on Highway 20 West (State Park Road) at the Dairy Queen.
