About

Liz Butte Cabin was a rustic Forest Service cabin located in the rugged backcountry of Idaho's Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests. The cabin sat at approximately 6,000 feet elevation near the historic Lolo Motorway, the route used by Lewis and Clark during their 1805-1806 expedition across the Bitterroot Mountains. The area surrounding Liz Butte offers opportunities for wildlife viewing, horseback riding, hiking, and mountain biking. The nearby Castle Butte Lookout and the Lolo Motorway corridor provide access to some of the most remote and historically significant terrain in the Northern Rockies. This facility is no longer available for public rental. Visitors interested in cabin rentals in the area should consider Liz Creek Cabin, a similar historic guard station that remains available through Recreation.gov.
