About

Rocky Ridge Campground offers a true backcountry camping experience in the remote high country of the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests. This small, free campground sits just off the historic Lolo Motorway, the primitive route that generally follows the path used by the Lewis and Clark Expedition and the Nez Perce people for centuries. The campground has only 3 sites with a tight turning radius, making it suitable exclusively for tent camping and small vehicles. Camper trailers and RVs cannot be accommodated. A vault toilet is provided, but there is no potable water, so campers must bring their own supply. Pack-out principles apply. Access requires traveling the Lolo Motorway, a rough, narrow, winding road built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s. High-clearance vehicles are recommended, and the road is typically impassable due to snow until late June or July depending on conditions.

Directions

Located 1/4 mile off the Lolo Motorway (Forest Road 500), approximately 5 miles east of the Pete Forks intersection. High-clearance vehicle recommended for the Motorway.
