About
Rocky Ridge Campground is a small, primitive campground nestled in the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forest along the historic Lolo Motorway. This remote site features only 3 campsites with a tight turning radius, making it suitable only for tent camping and small vehicles. Individual sites are not large enough to accommodate camper trailers or RVs. Located approximately 5 miles east of the Pete Forks intersection and 1/4 mile off the Lolo Motorway (Forest Service Road 500), this campground offers a true backcountry experience in one of Idaho's most historic and remote regions. The Lolo Motorway follows the route of the Lewis and Clark expedition through the Bitterroot Range and requires a high-clearance vehicle to navigate its unpaved, narrow, rocky terrain. The campground provides vault toilets but no drinking water, trash service, or other developed amenities. Campers must be completely self-sufficient, as there are no gas stations, stores, or services along the entire motorway. The area offers excellent opportunities for solitude and experiencing the rugged wilderness that challenged the Corps of Discovery over two centuries ago.
