About

Weitas Guard Station Camp is a primitive camping area near a remote guard station in Idaho's Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests. The guard station itself is staffed by volunteers during part of the recreation season. Situated along the historic Lolo Trail corridor, this location provides access to some of the most undeveloped backcountry in the northern Rockies. The area appeals to experienced campers seeking solitude and primitive conditions. Activities include wildlife viewing, scenic drives, mountain biking, OHV trail riding, day hiking, backpacking, and horseback riding. The surrounding Weitas Creek drainage offers opportunities for exploration in a largely undisturbed forest setting. This is a true backcountry destination with no developed facilities. There are no restrooms, no potable water, and no trash services. Campers must bring all supplies and pack out all waste. The remote location requires high-clearance vehicles and careful trip planning, especially regarding weather and road conditions.

Directions

From Weippe, Idaho, travel northeast approximately 45 miles via Forest Service Road 500 and 555. High-clearance vehicle recommended. Roads may be impassable during winter and early spring due to snow.
