Road construction near Dawson, TX leading into Liberty Hill Park may cause travel delays. To avoid construction, exit off of State Hwy 31 onto FM 709 E / SWCR 4010, approximately 2.5 miles west of Dawson. Follow FM 709 E for 7 miles to the park entrance.
About
Liberty Hill Park is located on the southern shore of Navarro Mills Lake in north central Texas, approximately four miles north of Dawson. The campground offers 99 campsites with water and electric hookups, including 5 screened shelters, 6 sites with full sewer hookups, and 3 primitive sites without hookups. All campsites feature paved roads and parking pads. The park provides extensive recreational amenities including two multi-lane boat ramps, a fishing dock, marina, playground, and swim beach. Navarro Mills Lake is renowned for its fishing, holding the current Texas state record for white crappie at 4 pounds 9 ounces. Anglers can also target channel catfish, yellow catfish, and hybrid stripers. Birdwatching is popular year-round with sightings of songbirds, hawks, great blue herons, waterfowl, and occasional bald eagles. Spring wildflower displays attract visitors to see bluebonnets and paintbrushes. A gatehouse at the park entrance operates 6:00 am to 10:00 pm daily, with gate attendants living on-site and available for emergencies 24 hours. All gates close at 10:00 pm with a night exit available for campers. The park is easily accessible from the Dallas-Fort Worth metro area, though travelers should note ongoing road construction near Dawson may cause delays.
Directions
From Waco or Corsicana, take State Highway 31 to Dawson, turn north onto FM 709 and travel about 4 miles to the park entrance. If coming from Waco, do not turn at the first FM 709 intersection; proceed into Dawson and turn left at the second FM 709 intersection across from the Jiffy Mart. Note: Road construction near Dawson may cause delays. Alternative route exits State Highway 31 onto FM 709 East approximately 2.5 miles west of Dawson, then follows FM 709 East for 7 miles to park entrance. Do not attempt to access via the dam as that road is closed to the public.
