About

Located near the Missouri River in Buchanan County, Lewis and Clark State Park's shelter campsites provide a comfortable camping experience with small shelters at select electric sites. The campground sits beneath mature cottonwood and sycamore trees that offer natural shade, and the level, spacious sites make maneuvering large recreational vehicles straightforward. Every campsite includes a table and barbecue grill, with fire rings at accessible sites. The campground provides modern amenities including restrooms with hot showers (available April 15 through October 31), a dump station, and a playground. During off-season months, potable water remains available from a frost-free spigot at the dump station. Three electric sites are fully ADA accessible with extended-end tables, fire rings, lantern posts, and pedestal grills. The park commemorates the Lewis and Clark expedition's encampment here on July 4, 1804. While the lake is currently dry due to prolonged drought conditions, the campground remains fully operational for overnight stays. Reservations can be made up to 12 months in advance through the Missouri State Parks reservation system.
