Named for the famous explorers who encountered this area during their 1804 westward journey, the park encompasses 189 acres along what was once called Gosling Lake. The shelters are situated within a park that offers broad open spaces and scenic picnic areas. Bird watchers frequent the area to observe geese, great blue herons, eagles, swans, and snowy egrets that visit the oxbow lake throughout the seasons. While the park's lake is currently dry due to prolonged drought conditions, the shelters and surrounding facilities remain accessible for visitors. Lewis and Clark State Park is located at 801 Lakecrest Blvd., Rushville, MO 64484. From Interstate 29, take Exit 56 and head west on US-59 for approximately 10 miles. Turn right onto MO-116 W and continue for about 2 miles. Turn left onto Lakecrest Blvd., and the park entrance will be on your right.
