About
Leavitt Meadows Campground is a small, intimate campground set among Jeffrey pines along the West Walker River in the eastern Sierra. Located at 7,800 feet in the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest near Bridgeport, California, it offers 17 first-come-first-served sites suitable for tents and small RVs under 24 feet. The campground serves as a popular basecamp for anglers working the West Walker River and backpackers heading into the Hoover Wilderness. The adjacent Leavitt Meadows Trailhead leads to an extensive trail network along the West Walker River into areas of lake-filled basins. Climbers use this access to approach Tower Peak for both technical routes and scrambles. Each site includes a picnic table, fire ring, and bear-resistant food storage locker. Vault toilets and potable water from a hand pump are available. Dogs are allowed on leash. A free California Campfire Permit is required for any fire or stove use, and overnight trips into the West Walker River/Hoover Wilderness area require a wilderness permit.
Directions
From Highway 395 south of Bridgeport, drive approximately 17 miles to Highway 108 at Sonora Junction. Turn left on Highway 108 and go approximately six miles. The campground is on the left side of the highway.
