About

Bootleg Campground offers a solid basecamp for exploring the eastern Sierra and fishing the West Walker River. Located in Walker Canyon at 6,600 feet elevation within the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest, the campground provides 63 sites scattered among mature Jeffrey pines. The West Walker River runs along the opposite side of Highway 395, providing good trout fishing within walking distance. Facilities include flush toilets in four restroom buildings, potable drinking water, and trash collection. Each site comes equipped with a picnic table, campfire ring with grill, and bear-resistant food storage locker. Firewood is available for purchase from the camp host. The campground accommodates both tents and RVs, though there are no hookups, showers, or dump station. A California Campfire Permit from Cal Fire is required for campfires, barbecues, and portable stoves. Dogs must remain on leash throughout the campground.

Directions

From Bridgeport, drive approximately 22 miles north on U.S. Highway 395. The campground is on the left side of the highway in Walker Canyon.
