About
Leavis Flat Campground is a small, rustic camping facility nestled within the Giant Sequoia National Monument on the Western Divide Ranger District of Sequoia National Forest. Operated by dedicated volunteers from the Giant Sequoia National Monument Association, this 9-site campground sits at a modest elevation of 3,000 feet, making it more accessible during shoulder seasons than higher-elevation campgrounds in the area. The campground provides basic amenities including picnic tables at each site and vault toilets, but campers should come prepared as there is no potable water available on-site. Each campsite includes a fire ring, and campfire permits are required for all fires, barbecues, and camp stoves. The campground can accommodate RVs up to 16 feet in length, though the rugged forest roads and limited turnaround space make it better suited for smaller trailers and truck campers. This is bear country, and visitors must use proper food storage methods, as human-bear conflicts have occurred in the area. Operating on a first-come, first-served basis with no reservations accepted, Leavis Flat offers a quiet, uncrowded camping experience. The campground provides access to fishing opportunities and serves as a base for exploring the surrounding Giant Sequoia National Monument. Quiet hours are enforced from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., and visitors are limited to 14 consecutive nights within any 30-day period.
