About

Lake Walcott State Park encompasses 65 acres on the western shore of Lake Walcott, an 8,000-acre impoundment of the Snake River created by Minidoka Dam. Located approximately 11 miles northeast of Rupert in Minidoka County, the park sits on the edge of Idaho's high desert, providing a lush contrast to the surrounding agricultural land and high desert terrain. Historic Walcott Park once housed an experimental farm, Bureau of Reclamation worker housing, a resort, and a Civilian Conservation Corps camp. The campground offers 40 total sites accommodating various camping styles. Twenty-two sites feature electric (30/50 amp) and water hookups, while 18 primitive sites along the water's edge provide a more rustic experience. The park can accommodate large RVs and trailers up to 90 feet in length with both back-in and pull-through paved driveways. Two rental cabins and group camping areas are also available. Modern amenities include flush toilets, showers, a dump station, and drinking water. Located within the Minidoka National Wildlife Refuge, the park is a haven for wildlife observation and birding. Recreation opportunities include fishing in Lake Walcott, boating access via boat ramp, and playing on the world-class 21-hole disc golf course that draws enthusiasts from across the region. The grassy, tree-shaded day-use area provides picnicking facilities with tables and grills. Paved pathways connect different areas of the park, making it accessible for all visitors.

Directions

From I-84, take Exit 211 at Rupert and follow ID-24 West north for approximately 11 miles to reach the park entrance on the western shore of Lake Walcott, near Minidoka Dam.
