About
Lake Sinclair Recreation Area is a U.S. Forest Service campground situated on the majestic Lake Sinclair in the heart of Georgia. Created in 1953 when the Oconee River was impounded by Georgia Power Company to operate a hydroelectric generating station, this 15,330-acre lake features 417 miles of shoreline and offers excellent opportunities for water-based recreation. The campground consists of 33 campsites organized in four loops. Loop A provides 5 full hookup sites with electric and water, while the remaining two loops offer non-hookup sites with water access nearby. The recreation area is ideal for families, scout troops, and church gatherings, offering a range of activities including boating, fishing, swimming, waterskiing, hiking, and picnicking. Day use areas and boat ramps provide convenient lake access. Operating first-come, first-served year-round, the campground features potable water and picnic tables at all sites. Quiet hours are enforced between 10:00 PM and 7:00 AM, and each campsite can accommodate up to 5 persons or an immediate family. A Georgia State fishing license and valid boat registration are required for anglers and boaters. The dump station is temporarily closed for repairs, so campers should plan accordingly for waste disposal.
