About
Hard Labor Creek State Park covers 5,804 acres in Morgan County, Georgia, offering a variety of camping experiences including tent-only sites, RV sites with water and electric hookups, and premium lakeside locations. Thirteen sites include sewer hookups. The campground features comfort stations with hot showers and flush toilets, a dump station, and a trading post for supplies. Equestrian campers have dedicated sites with water and electric, 30 horse stalls, and access to 22 miles of riding trails. The park centers around Lake Rutledge (274 acres) and Lake Brantley (48 acres), with a seasonal sand beach at Lake Rutledge and a boat ramp with a 10-horsepower limit. Hikers can explore over 24 miles of trails through Piedmont hardwood forests. The Creek Golf Course, an 18-hole championship layout, operates within the park. Two group camps accommodate 75 and 120 guests, and four pioneer campgrounds serve organized groups seeking a more rustic experience. Built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s, the park retains historic stone structures and offers interpretive programs about its CCC heritage. The name reportedly comes from enslaved laborers who worked the rocky soil before the Civil War.
