About

High Falls State Park sits on 1,050 acres along the Towaliga River in Monroe County, Georgia, named for the tumbling cascades that form the tallest waterfall south of Atlanta. The park preserves the remains of a once-prosperous early 1800s industrial town that included stores, a grist mill, cotton gin, blacksmith shop, shoe factory, and hotel, which declined after being bypassed by the railroad in the 1880s. Today, visitors can hike along the river's edge and through hilly forest to explore the hydroelectric power plant foundation ruins. The campground provides 106 spacious sites (some seasonal) for tents, trailers, and RVs, with electrical hookups at all sites. Sites accommodate rigs up to 25 feet and include picnic tables, fire rings, and grills. Well-maintained bathhouses with flush toilets and hot showers are centrally located throughout the campground loops, along with coin-operated laundry facilities. A dump station is available for RVs. The park also features a 650-acre lake recognized as one of the nation's top family fishing destinations for hybrid and white bass, with boat ramps, fishing docks, and paddlecraft rentals. Additional amenities include yurts, a pioneer campground, paddle-in primitive camping, picnic shelters, playgrounds, and a swimming pool.
