About

Watson Mill Bridge State Park is one of Georgia's most picturesque state parks, divided by the winding South Fork River and centered around the state's longest covered bridge still in use. The 229-foot covered bridge was built in 1885 by Washington W.W. King, son of freed slave and famous covered-bridge builder Horace King. The bridge features a town lattice truss system held together with tree nails and has a 9-foot clearance with a 3-ton weight limit. The 1,118-acre park offers diverse camping options including 21 tent, trailer, and RV campsites with water and electric hookups, a dump station, and modern restroom facilities. The campground is set in a quiet, wooded area ideal for a peaceful overnight stay. Horse enthusiasts will appreciate the 11 equestrian campsites located near 22 horse stables, with 14 miles of dedicated horseback riding trails requiring a trail fee. Outdoor recreation opportunities include 7 miles of hiking trails and 5 miles of biking trails winding through thick forests along the riverbanks. During summer months, visitors enjoy playing in the cool river shoals just below the covered bridge. The park also offers fishing, geocaching, photography opportunities, three picnic shelters, three pioneer campsites, three log cabin bunkhouses, and a playground. Field trips and weddings are available with park approval.
