About
Soldier Lake Campground offers a peaceful retreat in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, with 44 campsites nestled among red pine, aspen, and maple trees surrounding a scenic 15-acre lake. The campground provides a feeling of remoteness while remaining accessible via M-28, which leads to excellent sightseeing opportunities throughout the region. Two sandy beaches within the campground and day use areas make swimming a popular activity, and non-motorized boating is permitted on Soldier Lake. The North Country National Scenic Trail, a 4,600-mile route running from New York to North Dakota, can be accessed directly from the day use area. The spacious day use area features a large picnic shelter built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s, complete with tables and a fireplace, along with a grassy area suitable for games. The campground is located approximately 7 miles east of Strongs, where visitors can find fuel, restaurants, and a general store. Each campsite includes a fire ring and table. Quiet hours are enforced from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. during the operating season.
Directions
From the intersection of M-28 and I-75, drive west on M-28 for 22.4 miles to Forest Road 3138. Turn left (south) on FR 3138 and drive one mile to Soldier Lake Campground.
