About
Lake Maria State Park Group Campground provides primitive group camping accommodations within one of Minnesota's few remaining stands of the Big Woods, a historic maple, oak, and basswood forest. The Oak Hill Group Camp can accommodate up to 50 people and features multiple picnic tables and fire rings spread across a wide open area in the forest. Unlike the park's backpack-in campsites, the group camp is accessible by vehicle. The campground serves as an excellent base for groups to explore Lake Maria State Park's 13 miles of hiking trails and 6 miles of horseback riding trails. The park features several lakes including Maria Lake and Little Mary Lake, providing scenic views and wildlife observation opportunities. Over 200 species of birds pass through annually, and the Blandings turtle, a threatened species, makes its home in the park. The nearby trail center offers interpretive displays, modern restrooms, and serves as a warming hut in winter. Group campers have access to vault toilets and are within walking distance of the trail system. The park is popular year-round, offering opportunities for hiking, horseback riding, cross-country skiing, and winter activities. Reservations are required for the group camp and can be made through the Minnesota state parks reservation system.
