About
Lake Maria State Park's three camper cabins offer a unique blend of comfort and wilderness immersion in one of Minnesota's most pristine natural areas. Each rustic log cabin is situated a half mile to one mile from the parking area, requiring a short hike through the remnant Big Woods forest that once covered much of southern Minnesota. The cabins accommodate up to six people with wooden bunk beds and mattresses, plus a table and benches inside. These 12x16 foot structures feature wood stove heating for winter use, making them available year-round, but have no electricity or indoor plumbing. Each cabin includes an outdoor picnic table and fire ring with grate for cooking. The remote locations near lakes, ponds, and wetlands provide excellent wildlife viewing opportunities, including chances to spot the threatened Blandings turtle, over 200 species of birds, and various forest mammals. Vault toilets are available near the cabins year-round. Seasonal restrooms with showers and drinking water are available at the trail center during warmer months, while the heated trail center provides flush toilets and drinking water year-round. The cabins are ideal for hikers, backpackers, and cross-country skiers seeking a more comfortable alternative to tent camping while maintaining a backcountry experience in the maple-basswood forest.
