Lake Maria State Park Backpack Campsites

Open

About

Lake Maria State Park preserves one of the few remaining stands of Minnesota's historic Big Woods, a dense maple, oak, and basswood forest that once covered much of the state. The park's 17 backpack campsites are dispersed along wooded trails, each positioned near quiet lakes and ponds that offer solitude and natural beauty. Reaching a site requires hiking between half a mile and two miles from the trailhead parking area. Each backpack site features a tent pad, fire ring with grill, and picnic table. Vault toilets serve the camping area, though campers must pack in their own drinking water as no potable water is available at the sites. The park's rolling terrain and forest trails make it popular with hikers, backpackers, horseback riders, and cross-country skiers. A Trail Center provides flush toilets, drinking water, and a gift shop for day visitors.
