About

Alamosa Campground is a quiet, free primitive campground located along the Alamosa River in the Conejos region of Rio Grande National Forest. Situated 4.5 miles upstream from Terrace Reservoir Dam, the campground provides a peaceful base for exploring the surrounding high-country terrain. The five campsites include one pull-through site, each equipped with a picnic table and fire ring. Vault toilets are available, but there is no potable water on site. Campers should bring their own water supply or be prepared to purify stream water. This is a pack-in, pack-out campground with no trash service. The area is bear country, so proper food storage is required. Recreational opportunities include fishing at nearby Terrace Reservoir and trail access to the Alamosa-Rock Creek and Big Lake trails. Note that naturally acidic water severely limits fishing in the Alamosa River between Stunner Campground and Terrace Reservoir. Maneuvering space for large trailers and RVs is limited, making this campground best suited for smaller rigs, tents, and truck campers.

Directions

From Monte Vista, follow Hwy 15 south to the junction of Forest Road 250. Turn west and go approximately 12 miles on FR 250 to the campground. From La Jara, follow Hwy 15 west to Centro. Where the road turns right, immediately make a sharp left and follow FS Road 255 to its junction with FS 250, then follow FS 250 to the campground.
