About
La Sombra Campground is a relaxing, shaded campground nestled in spruce-fir and aspen stands within Carson National Forest's Taos Canyon. Located just 8 miles east of Taos along US Highway 64, the campground features 13 single sites and sees light use compared to nearby developed campgrounds. The adjacent Rio Fernando provides direct access for fishing. Facilities are primitive, with two vault toilets available but no drinking water or garbage service. Campers must bring adequate water supplies and pack out all trash. The campground is near Capulin Campground and Shady Brook, offering options for exploring the broader Taos Canyon recreation area. When open, sites are available on a first-come, first-served basis at $12 per night, with discounts available for Senior or Access pass holders at $6 per night. The entire campground can also be reserved for group use at $90 per night.
