About
Klahanie Campground is nestled in the temperate coastal rainforest of Olympic National Forest along the South Fork Calawah River. The site features old-growth Sitka spruce reaching over 8 feet in diameter, draped with hanging mosses and surrounded by a lush understory of wood sorrel and sword fern. The diverse forest environment supports opportunities for fishing, wildlife watching, and nature photography. The campground's location makes it an economical base camp for exploring the unique character of the Olympic Peninsula. It lies 20 minutes from the Pacific Ocean coast and La Push, cultural center for the Quileute People; 25 minutes from the Bogachiel Rain Forest; and an hour from Cape Flattery bluffs and the Makah Cultural Center in Neah Bay. The town of Forks, with its shops and local events, is just 7 miles away. Campers should exercise caution around the river, as bank erosion has occurred in recent years. Children should always be supervised near the water.
Directions
From Forks, WA travel north on US Highway 101 for one mile. Turn east onto Forest Service Road 29 and drive 5 miles. The campground is on the south side of the road.
