About

Kilen Woods Campground sits along the Des Moines River in Jackson County, offering a peaceful retreat in southwest Minnesota's unique bluff country. The seasonal campground features 33 sites divided into two distinct loops. Loop A contains 13 non-electric sites that accommodate both RVs and tents, all within walking distance of a modern restroom and shower building. Loop B offers 11 electric sites (some with 50-amp service) and 8 non-electric sites, with site 20E being particularly popular for its views overlooking the Des Moines River Valley and oak savanna. Four walk-in tent sites provide a more secluded camping experience on the east side of Loop B. The campground serves as a base for exploring five miles of hiking trails that wind through diverse habitats including oak forest, prairie grasslands, oak savanna, and flood plain forest. Nine footbridges cross small creeks throughout the trail system. The Des Moines River features Class I rapids within park boundaries, popular with kayakers and canoeists. The park also contains the Prairie Bush Clover Scientific and Natural Area, home to rare prairie plant species. Additional facilities include a chalet building, amphitheater, and picnic areas.
