About

Kilen Woods State Park was authorized in 1945 and preserves 202 acres of wooded terrain along the Des Moines River in southwestern Minnesota. Designated as a Rustic park in the state system plan, it offers a quieter camping experience compared to larger state parks. The campground is set among large trees near the river, providing shade and a peaceful atmosphere. The park features 32 semi-modern drive-in campsites including 3 pull-through sites and 11 sites with electric hookups (30/50 amp). Four additional walk-in tent sites are available for those seeking a more primitive experience. Each campsite includes a picnic table and fire ring with grill. The campground has a shower building, vault toilets, potable drinking water, and a dump station. Beyond camping, visitors enjoy 5 miles of hiking trails through oak savanna and woodland habitats, public fishing access on the Des Moines River, and canoeing opportunities. The park is also home to the Prairie Bush Clover Scientific and Natural Area, protecting rare prairie species.

Directions

From Lakefield, go 4 miles north on Highway 86 to the junction with County Road 24, then 5 miles east on County Road 24 to the park entrance. The park is located 12 miles northwest of Jackson, Minnesota.
