About

Keenes Horse Camp sits in a stand of lodgepole pine and mixed conifers at high elevation in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest. Designed specifically for equestrian use, the campground offers 13 sites equipped with 26 hi-line posts for securing horses, a mounting ramp, and two manure bins. Stock water is available on site, but campers must bring their own drinking water. The campground's location on the edge of Mt. Adams Wilderness makes it an ideal base for backcountry horse travel. Trails departing from or near the campground include High Lakes Trail #116, Keenes Trail #120, and Muddy Meadows Trail #13. A free, self-issued wilderness permit is required before entering the wilderness area. Motorized and mechanized equipment are prohibited in the wilderness. Access involves a series of forest roads from Randle, Washington. The old loop is limited to camper pickups with smaller trailers, while the newer loop can accommodate larger rigs. Campfires are not currently permitted. Vault toilets and picnic tables are provided at sites.
