About

Kanopolis State Park is Kansas's oldest state recreation area, located 30 miles southwest of Salina in Ellsworth County. The park showcases stunning Dakota sandstone bluffs, canyons, and natural caves carved by centuries of erosion. Kanopolis Lake provides excellent fishing, boating, and swimming opportunities with three boat ramps and a full-service marina. The park offers nearly 450 campsites distributed across multiple campground areas. Venango Park on the lake's eastern shore features 126 campsites with options including electric/water hookups, electric only, and primitive sites along with flush toilets, showers, and a dump station. Riverside Campground offers 24 sites along the Smoky Hill River downstream from the dam. State park campgrounds include Sandstone, Eagle Point, Yucca, Switchgrass, Rockin' K Horse Campground, and others with varying amenities from primitive to full hookups with 30/50 amp electric. A 26-mile multiuse trail system winds through the distinctive sandstone terrain, accommodating hikers, mountain bikers, and equestrians. The Rockin' K Horse Campground specifically caters to equestrian campers. Half a mile of ADA-accessible trail with wetland bridge crossing is available. Six deluxe cabins provide an alternative to camping.
