Closed for the entire 2026 season due to extensive tree damage from a powerful windstorm in December 2025. Cleanup and hazard tree removal are required before reopening. The typical operating season is mid-May through mid-September.

**IRON CREEK CG CLOSED FOR THE 2026 SEASON. **Due to a powerful windstorm that recently plowed through Iron Creek Campground, the USFS has requested that this campground be closed for the 2026 season. Many trees are down throughout the campground and it will take some time before cleanup will be completed.

About

Iron Creek Campground is a large, well-developed facility in Gifford Pinchot National Forest, located 12 miles south of Randle on Forest Road 25. The campground occupies a flat bench along the Cispus River, surrounded by towering old-growth Douglas fir, western red cedar, and hemlock. Lush understory vegetation and generous spacing between the 98 sites provide excellent privacy and a true forest camping experience. The campground offers both single sites ($27/night) and double sites ($50/night) with paved spurs, picnic tables, and campfire rings. Vault toilets and potable water from hand pumps are available throughout. Iron Creek and the Cispus River provide fishing opportunities for cutthroat trout, whitefish, and rainbow trout. The 0.3-mile Iron Creek Old Growth Trail is a barrier-free interpretive loop perfect for all ages and abilities. This location serves as an excellent base camp for exploring the quieter east side of Mount St. Helens, with the Windy Ridge Viewpoint approximately 20 miles away via Forest Road 25. The Woods Creek Watchable Wildlife Area is just up the road toward Randle.

Directions

From Randle, Washington, travel south on State Highway 131 which becomes Forest Road 25. At the Y intersection after about 1 mile, veer right to stay on Forest Road 25. Continue 7.8 miles to the campground on the left.
