About
Moose Creek Cabin is a historic two-bedroom log cabin located in the Tenmile Creek drainage of the Helena-Lewis and Clark National Forest, approximately 12 miles southwest of Helena, Montana. Built in 1907, this rustic retreat served as a Forest Service Ranger Station, guard station, and Civilian Conservation Corps work center during the early years of the agency. Through efforts by the Forest Service, Montana Discovery Foundation, and volunteers, the cabin has been renovated for public use. The cabin accommodates up to 4 guests with one bedroom featuring a queen bed and another with two twin beds, all with mattresses provided. The kitchen includes a table and chairs, dishes, utensils, cookware, and a propane cook stove with lights. A wood fireplace provides the only heat source, with firewood supplied from September 1 through May 31. A vault toilet outhouse is located on the property, along with an outdoor picnic table and campfire ring. The surrounding area offers diverse recreation including access to the Continental Divide National Scenic Trail for hiking and backpacking, fishing in Moose Creek for rainbow and brook trout, and winter activities such as cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and snowmobiling. Wildlife including elk, deer, and various birds are commonly seen in the area.
Directions
From Helena, travel west on Montana Highway 12 approximately 8 miles. Turn south on Rimini Road #695 at the base of MacDonald Pass.
