About
Juniper Springs Group Campground is a primitive group camping facility located in the San Bernardino Mountains approximately 10 miles from Big Bear Lake. Situated at an elevation of 7,739 feet, the campground occupies a scenic setting in a pinyon pine and juniper woodland adjacent to a meadow, with ponderosa pines dotting the site and a small pond on the property. The campground offers a single large group site that can accommodate up to 40 people and 8 vehicles. Facilities are basic and include four picnic tables, one double pedestal grill, a group fire ring, and vault toilets. No drinking water or trash collection is available, and non-potable water may be present. The primitive nature of this campground makes it ideal for groups seeking a more rustic mountain camping experience. Access to Juniper Springs requires a vehicle with at least 6 inches of ground clearance, as the campground is reached via Forest Routes 2N01 and 2N64Y, which are graded dirt roads. Standard SUVs or four-wheel drive vehicles are recommended. The area offers excellent opportunities for hiking, mountain biking, and off-highway vehicle recreation, with nearby Cactus Flats containing approximately 68 miles of OHV trails. Big Bear Lake, located 11 miles away, provides fishing and boating opportunities for trout, bluegill, crappie, catfish, and largemouth bass. The nearest showers are available at Serrano Campground, 15 miles away, and stores and restaurants can be found in Big Bear Lake.
