Named after Jigger Johnson, an almost legendary north country woods boss during the region's colorful logging era, this established campground is centrally located along the scenic Kancamagus Highway in the White Mountain National Forest. The campground features 75 campsites with dirt pads accessed via a paved campground road, with sites 1-9 designated for tent camping only. The Swift River flows behind the campground, providing opportunities for fishing and water recreation. Jigger Johnson is the only campground on the Kancamagus Highway that offers coin-operated showers, making it a popular choice for campers seeking more amenities. A short trail connects the campground to the Russell-Colbath Historic Site, and the central location makes it an ideal base for exploring the extensive trail network throughout the White Mountain National Forest. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no advance reservations. Campsites include picnic tables and fire rings, with vault toilets and hand-pump drinking water available throughout the campground.
