About

Jay Cooke State Park Group Campground consists of two dedicated group sites (GC1 and GC2) designed for organized groups seeking a communal outdoor experience in northeastern Minnesota. Each site accommodates up to 25 people and is restricted to tent camping only. The group camps feature picnic tables and fire rings with grills at each site, with access to potable water and primitive vault toilets nearby. Modern shower facilities are not available at the group camp area. The park itself is renowned for its dramatic geological features, particularly the tilted slate and greywacke rock formations along the St. Louis River. The iconic Swinging Bridge provides views of the river cascading over these ancient rock formations. With over 50 miles of trails winding through dense hardwood and conifer forests, the park offers excellent hiking, mountain biking, and cross-country skiing opportunities. Group camps operate seasonally from mid-May through October. Reservations are required and can be made up to 120 days in advance through the Minnesota state parks reservation system online or by phone. The park is located 10 miles southwest of Duluth along Highway 210, making it accessible for groups from the Twin Cities and greater Minnesota region.

Directions

From Duluth, take Interstate 35 south to Highway 210. Head east on Highway 210 for approximately 3 miles. The park entrance is at 780 Highway 210 in Carlton.
