The Island Acres Section of James M. Robb Colorado River State Park sits along the Colorado River near Palisade, surrounded by diverse stands of Rio Grande cottonwoods including mature trees that provide excellent shade and habitat for bald eagles. The campground offers 80 sites: 40 full-hookup sites (four with 50 amp, the rest with 30 amp), 34 electric-only sites with 30 amp connections, and 6 basic tent sites without hookups. All sites feature picnic tables, fire rings, and stand-up grills. The park provides year-round camping access with seasonal amenities. During summer months (May through September), visitors enjoy flush restrooms, hot showers, and laundry facilities. A swim beach on the west end opens Memorial Day through Labor Day. Winter camping (November through March) operates with limited facilities: only electric and tent sites are available, full hookup sites close, and vault toilets replace flush facilities. The campground is conveniently located adjacent to I-70 and train tracks, which some campers may notice. Recreation opportunities include fishing in stocked lakes, paddling on the lake with hand-propelled or electric boats, hiking the 0.75-mile self-guided riverside trail, and waterfowl hunting from designated blinds during season. The park's location provides easy access to Palisade's orchards and vineyards. Park gates are open daily from 5:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Reservations are required and can be made up to six months in advance through cpwshop.com, with a maximum stay of 14 days within any 28-day period.
