About

James Kipp Recreation Area occupies a scenic stretch of the Upper Missouri River where US Highway 191 crosses the Fred Robinson Bridge, approximately 20 miles north of Bohemian Corner in Fergus County. The campground sits at the boundary of the Charles M. Russell National Wildlife Refuge and serves as a primary launch point for float trips through the Upper Missouri River Breaks National Monument. The 34 campsites can accommodate trailers and RVs up to 40 feet in length. Each site has a designated fire ring and picnic table. Facilities include vault toilets, trash dumpsters, and an RV waste dump station. There are no hookups. The potable water system is currently shut down, so campers must bring their own drinking water. This is a first-come, first-served campground with no reservations. The nightly fee is $20, and the dump station costs $15 per use. Activities include camping, fishing, hunting, boating, paddling, and wildlife photography. The campground operates seasonally from April 1 through December 1.
