About

Camp Creek Recreation Area occupies a forested pocket of the Little Rockies in Phillips County, Montana. The recreation area comprises three units: Camp Creek Campground, Horse Corral Campground, and Buffington Day Use Area. Camp Creek Campground itself has 20 camping units equipped with picnic tables, fire rings, and access to restrooms and drinking water. Garbage collection is provided. The campground serves as a base for exploring the surrounding landscape. A system of trails departs directly from camp, drawing hikers, mountain bikers, and OHV riders. Birders visit for species like Clark's nutcracker, red crossbill, and red-naped sapsucker; the site is a designated Watchable Wildlife area and a featured stop on Montana's Northeastern Plains Birding Trail. Several small bass and trout fisheries lie within a 30-minute drive. The historic mining town of Zortman, about seven miles away, offers a general store, restaurant, fuel, and gold panning. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no reservations accepted.

Directions

From U.S. Highway 191, take the 7-mile Road (7 miles) or Bear Gulch Road (7 miles) west toward Zortman to the campground entrance. Signs mark both turns off Highway 191.
