About
Located in the Sierra Madre Range of Medicine Bow-Routt National Forest, Jack Creek Campground provides a base for exploring high-elevation wilderness at approximately 8,400 feet. The campground features 16 campsites with 4 pull-through options, making it accessible to various camping setups. Each site includes a picnic table and fire ring. The area sees moderate use during summer and fall months.
The surrounding area offers extensive recreation opportunities including fishing in over 100 nearby lakes and streams, hiking and backpacking through the Platte River and Savage Run Wilderness areas, and OHV riding on primitive forest roads. Both motorized and non-motorized sections of the Continental Divide National Scenic Trail are in the vicinity. The Jack Creek Guard Station and Crew Quarters are nearby historic facilities.
The campground is accessed via County Road 500 from Saratoga, requiring travel on forest roads. The Sierra Madre Range location provides cooler summer temperatures and opportunities for wildlife viewing, mountain biking, and fishing. Winter activities like snowshoeing and skiing are popular in the broader Snowy Range area, though the campground itself closes seasonally.
Directions
From Saratoga, travel west on Carbon County Road 500 approximately 16 miles to junction with County Road 405, stay left and travel 3 miles to the Forest boundary. Road changes to Forest Road 452. Continue on FR 452 for 5 miles to Jack Creek Campground.
