About
Bottle Creek Group Picnic Site offers a large gathering space for groups of up to 200 people in the Medicine Bow National Forest at 8,800 feet elevation. The site features approximately 150 feet of picnic table space with numerous large tables, two serving tables, two large pedestal grills, and one large wood grill. Shaded by lodgepole pine and aspen, the area provides a cool, comfortable setting for group events.
This is a day-use only facility, though the adjacent Bottle Creek Campground offers overnight camping options with 12 reservable sites plus first-come, first-served sites. The campground accommodates small RVs and trailers under 16 feet. Popular activities include fishing for brown and rainbow trout on the nearby Encampment and North Fork Encampment Rivers, day hiking on the Green Mountain Falls and Encampment River Trails, wildlife watching, and fall hunting. The area is home to black bear, elk, mule deer, moose, bobcat, and coyote.
Visitors should note that trash service is not provided, so all waste must be packed out. The high elevation location requires caution when traveling from lower elevations. The facility is accessed via State Route 70 west from Encampment and Forest Road 550.
