Battle Creek Campground

Closed — Closed for the season. The campground typically operates June through October, weather permitting. Winter snow closes forest roads and prevents access.

About

Battle Creek Campground is a primitive camping area in the Medicine Bow National Forest, situated along Battle Creek in a remote setting approximately 26 miles west of Encampment, Wyoming. The campground features 4 basic campsites, each equipped with a picnic table and fire ring, providing a rustic camping experience in a quiet forest setting. This is a true primitive campground with no developed facilities. There are no restrooms, no potable water sources, and no trash service. Campers must pack out all trash and waste following Leave No Trace principles. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no reservation system and no camping fees. A 14-day stay limit applies. The campground is accessed via Forest Route 807, approximately 2 miles south of Highway 70. The area offers fishing opportunities in Battle Creek and serves as a base for exploring the surrounding national forest. Due to its elevation and remote location, the campground operates seasonally when snow conditions allow access.

Directions

From Encampment, travel west on Wyoming Highway 70 for approximately 21 miles. Turn left onto Forest Route 807 and continue south for about 2 miles to reach the campground.
