About
Interrorem Cabin holds the distinction of being the first administrative site in Olympic National Forest, built in 1907 by Ranger Emery J. Finch for his new bride Mabel. This 24x20-foot square peeled-log building with its pyramidal cedar shake roof and open front porch sits on a grassy clearing beneath magnificent stands of Big Leaf Maple trees in the Duckabush Recreation Area. The cabin accommodates up to four guests with a futon in the living room and twin bunk beds in the bedroom. Propane is furnished for the heater, cook range, and lights. Guests must bring sleeping bags, pillows, towels, dish soap, cleaning supplies, matches, toilet paper, and garbage bags. A vault toilet is located outside, along with a fire ring and picnic table. A nature trail behind the cabin features interpretive signs and historic photos describing the lives of Emery and Mabel Finch. The Ranger Hole Trail, built by Finch himself, leads to his favorite fishing spot on the Duckabush River. The cabin provides easy access to The Brothers Wilderness, Olympic National Park, Hood Canal, and nearby Murhut Falls.
