About

Dry Soda Lookout stands as a historic fire detection facility in the Malheur National Forest of eastern Oregon's Blue Mountains. Built as a vintage USFS 60-foot CT-2 wooden tower with a 14x14-foot L-4 hip roof cab and wooden catwalk, the structure remains in good condition and includes a rappelling platform at the 45-foot level. The lookout is staffed by Forest Service personnel for 4-5 months each year during fire season to monitor the forest for smoke and fire activity. Unlike other lookouts in the Malheur National Forest such as Fall Mountain Lookout, Dry Soda is not available for public rental or overnight use. It functions solely as an active fire detection station. The lookout is accessed via US 395 north from Seneca for 7 miles, then Forest Road 3925 for 9 miles. The site has no developed camping facilities, no potable water, and a vault toilet. No fees are charged as this is not a designated public recreation site.

Directions
