About
Wickiup Campground sits along Forest Road 15 in the Malheur National Forest, nestled among trees beside Canyon Creek. Built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the late 1930s, this historic campground provides a peaceful setting to relax in the shade and listen to the creek flow past during the summer months. The campground offers stream fishing opportunities along Canyon Creek and serves as an excellent starting point for hiking and wildlife viewing throughout the surrounding forest. The campground is particularly popular during fall hunting seasons and provides a rustic camping experience with vault toilets and established campsites featuring fire rings and picnic tables. No water is available on-site, so campers must bring their own. The facility operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no advance reservations available. During winter months when the campground is closed for camping, the entrance area provides snowmobile access to the surrounding forest.
Directions
From John Day, travel south on US Highway 395 approximately 10 miles to the junction with County Road 65. Follow County Road 65 approximately 7 miles; the campground will be on the right.
