The have issued an Air Quality Alert until 11 AM PDT Thursday. An Air Quality Alert has been issued for Benton, Columbia, Franklin, Kittitas, Klickitat, Walla Walla and Yakima Counties until further notice due to expected wildfire smoke from regional fires. Expect some clearing out and intermittent good air quality but with significant fires on the landscape conditions can worsen quickly to unhealthy air. Be sure to check air monitors in your area before outdoor activities. People can take the following precautions to protect their health: * Follow local burn restrictions to prevent deteriorating air quality. * Avoid strenuous outdoor activity in smoky conditions. * People with heart or lung problems and young children are especially vulnerable. These people should stay indoors while smoke levels are high. * Use certified High Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) filters in indoor heating ventilation, cooling, and air purification systems. * Avoid using wood-burning stoves and other sources of indoor smoke if possible. The Washington State Department of Ecology, Benton Clean Air Agency, and the Yakima Regional Clean Air Agency have issued an Air Quality Alert until further notice. For the Smoke Air Quality Alert, wildfires burning in the region combined with forecasted conditions will cause air quality to reach unhealthy levels. Pollutants in smoke can cause burning eyes, runny nose, aggravate heart and lung diseases, and aggravate other serious health problems. Limit outdoor activities and keep children indoors if it is smoky. Please follow medical advice if you have a heart or lung condition. Icewater Creek Campground sits at 2,700 feet elevation along Taneum Creek in the Cle Elum Ranger District of the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest. The 15-site campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with payment available via QR code scanning through the Recreation.gov mobile app. Sites cost $24 per night with an $11 fee for additional vehicles. The campground is particularly popular with single-track motorcycle riders, featuring a beginner-level loop trail that originates within the campground. ATVs and Jeep trails are not permitted. Hikers can access North Fork Taneum Trail #1377 from the campground. Facilities are primitive with vault toilets available but no potable water, so visitors must bring their own water supply. The campground typically opens in June and remains open until snowfall closes access. The area experienced significant weather events in late 2025, so road conditions may vary. Taneum Road (Forest Road 3300) provides access from I-90 Exit 93.

Directions

Take I-90 Exit 93 (Elk Heights/Taneum Creek), go north about 1/4 mile to Thorp Prairie Road. Turn right and go about 3.5 miles to East Taneum Road. Turn right and cross over I-90 to West Taneum Road/Forest Service Road 33. Turn right and travel 8.5 miles. Campground is on the left.
