Safety, caution urged during hunting season
With hunting season underway, the National Forests in Mississippi is reminding all forest visitors to exercise caution and safety when visiting a national forest. Hunting is a safe, recreational sport. Some visitors, however, are sometimes surprised when they meet hunters on the forest.

About
Hunt Camp 79A is a designated primitive campsite located within Delta National Forest, one of the few remaining hardwood forests in the Mississippi Delta. The forest covers 60,898 acres in Sharkey County and operates cooperatively as the Sunflower Wildlife Management Area. This primitive site includes basic amenities: a graveled pad, fire ring, lantern post, and picnic table. The terrain is relatively flat with majestic bald cypress trees and other bottomland hardwoods characteristic of the Mississippi Alluvial Valley. Camping is only permitted at designated sites within the forest. Campers should bring their own water or obtain it from the Delta Work Center on Forest Service Road 703. No restrooms or other services are available at individual campsites. The forest offers abundant recreation opportunities including hunting, fishing, wildlife viewing, ATV riding, hiking, horseback riding, and paddling through bayous and wetlands. Reservations are required for all campsites and must be made at least 48 hours in advance through Recreation.gov or at the Delta Ranger District Office in Rolling Fork. The campsite is available year-round at $7 per night, with a 50% discount for Access or Senior pass holders.
Directions
Nitta Yuma is located in Sharkey County, Mississippi, along U.S. Route 61, about four miles north of Anguilla. The area is known for its historic plantation sites and can be accessed by driving north from Anguilla on Highway 61 until you reach the small community of Nitta Yuma. Watch for local landmarks and the characteristic bend in the highway near the plantation grounds.
