About

Delta National Forest glimmers like a green jewel surrounded by lazy rivers and spreading agricultural fields in the Yazoo Basin of the Mississippi River. As the only entirely bottomland hardwood ecosystem in the National Forest System, it offers a unique camping experience among seasonally flooded timber, small sloughs, and the Big and Little Sunflower Rivers. The forest features 57 primitive campsites dispersed throughout the area, each equipped with a graveled pad, fire ring, lantern post, and picnic table. Four restroom facilities are located along Forest Service Roads 715, 717, 720, and 707. Potable water is available at the Delta Work Center on FSR 703. Recreation opportunities include wildlife viewing, hiking, ATV riding on designated trails with permits, horseback riding, bird and butterfly watching, canoeing, kayaking, hunting, and fishing. Nearby attractions within an hour's drive include Highway 61 on the Mississippi Blues Trail, Vicksburg Military Park, and the B.B. King Museum.
