About

Horseneck Beach State Reservation campground occupies a unique coastal location behind sand dunes at the eastern end of a 2-mile beach along Buzzards Bay in Westport, Massachusetts. The 100-site campground sits on Gooseberry Neck peninsula, bordered by Rhode Island Sound to the southwest and Buzzards Bay to the southeast. While campsites are behind the dunes rather than directly oceanfront, the beach is just steps away, offering swimming, surfing, fishing, and beachcombing opportunities. The campground is managed by the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation and operates seasonally from early May through Columbus Day in October. Sites are relatively close together in an open grassy area. Both standard non-electric sites and electric hookup sites are available, with rates differentiated for Massachusetts residents and non-residents. Advance reservations can be made through ReserveAmerica, with same-day reservations accepted until 2 PM on the day of arrival. Beach services including lifeguards and public restrooms operate from Memorial Day through Labor Day. The reservation is accessible via Route 88 off Interstate 195. The location provides excellent opportunities for birdwatching in the surrounding salt marshes and coastal habitats.
