About

Horse Springs Campground provides a quiet retreat at 5,750 feet elevation in the San Bernardino National Forest, away from the busier Big Bear valley. The high desert setting features a mix of juniper and pine trees with panoramic mountain views in all directions. Some sites offer generous shade while others are more exposed. The campground has 11 single-family sites suitable for tents and small trailers. This is a primitive facility with no toilets, no potable water, and no hookups. Each site has a picnic table. Payment is handled via the Recreation.gov Scan and Pay feature using a QR code on-site. Horse Springs is a favorite among OHV riders, as it sits close to designated green-sticker routes and the forest boundary with BLM Juniper Flats district. Maximum stay is 14 days, with a limit of 8 people and 2 vehicles per site.

Directions

Horse Springs Campground is located approximately 12 miles north of Fawnskin and Big Bear Lake. Access is via a bumpy dirt road; a slow drive is recommended.
