Big Pine Equestrian Group Campground offers a remote wilderness experience for horse camping groups in the San Bernardino National Forest. Situated at 6,820 feet elevation in a pine forest setting, the single group site accommodates up to 25 people and 5 vehicles. The campground features four horse corrals, hitching racks, watering stations, and a staging area specifically designed for equestrian use. Facilities include five picnic tables, two double pedestal grills, one group fire ring, and accessible vault toilets. Water availability on site is very limited, so campers should fill RVs and trailers before arrival. There are no utility hookups or dump stations. The campground is accessed via Forest Roads 3N14 and 3N16, a rough 7-mile dirt road where high-clearance vehicles are recommended. Reservations are required through Recreation.gov and can be made up to 12 months in advance. The campground typically operates from mid-April through early October. Fire restrictions may be imposed at any time depending on conditions. Note that the area sees significant OHV traffic, which may affect horses.

Directions

From Highway 330 to Running Springs, take Highway 18 northeast to Highway 38. Continue to Fawnskin and at the Y intersection, veer right onto Rim of the World Drive. After the pavement ends, continue on Forest Road 3N14 for approximately 6 miles to Forest Road 3N16. Turn left and proceed about 0.3 miles; the campground is accessed by a dirt road to your right. High-clearance vehicle recommended for the 7-mile dirt road.
