Ironwood Group Camp

About

Ironwood Group Camp is a reservation-only group campground tucked away in the San Bernardino National Forest, approximately 7 miles from the small town of Fawnskin. Situated at 6,637 feet elevation in a mature pine forest with an adjacent grassy meadow, the campground provides a secluded setting for group gatherings away from the busier campgrounds near Big Bear Lake. The single group site accommodates up to 25 people and 5-6 vehicles. Amenities include 4 picnic tables, a group fire ring, 2 double pedestal grills, and vault toilets. Campers must bring their own drinking water as none is available on site. The access road is rough dirt requiring high clearance vehicles. Recreational opportunities abound in the surrounding area. The Big Pine Flat Recreational Shooting Range offers designated target shooting nearby. Numerous trails accommodate hiking, horseback riding, and mountain biking. Big Bear Lake is a short drive away for fishing (trout, bluegill, crappie, catfish, largemouth bass) and boating. The campground operates seasonally from May through early October.

Directions

From San Bernardino, travel east on I-10 to Running Springs. Turn onto Highway 18 to Big Bear Lake Dam but don't cross the dam. Go straight on Highway 38 to Fawnskin. Turn left on Rim of the World Drive (Forest Route 3N14) and continue for about 6 miles. Turn left and then right on Forest Route 3N97. Continue for a short distance to the campground. High clearance vehicles recommended.
