Fishermans Group Campground offers a backcountry experience in the San Bernardino National Forest without a wilderness permit. The campground sits at approximately 5,150 feet elevation along Deep Creek, surrounded by pine, oak, and cedar forest. Access requires a 2.5-mile hike from the parking area near Tent Peg Group Campground, making this an ideal destination for those seeking solitude away from car-camping crowds. The campground consists of four separate group sites, each accommodating up to 8 people for tent camping only. Every site is equipped with a fire ring with grill and a picnic table. A single vault toilet serves the campground, along with one bear-proof trash container. No potable water is available; stream water from Deep Creek must be boiled or filtered before drinking. Recreation opportunities include hiking, fishing in Deep Creek, horseback riding, and wildlife viewing. Horses are permitted at the campground though no corrals or watering facilities exist. Big Bear Lake and the Big Bear Discovery Center are located approximately 21 miles away for additional services and information.

Directions

From Highway 18, turn north on Green Valley Lake Road and travel 3 miles. Turn left on Forest Route 3N16 (a dirt road) and continue for about 5 miles. Park in the designated parking area (8-vehicle capacity) just beyond the turn to Tent Peg Group Campground and hike 2.5 miles to Fisherman's Group Campground.
