About
Horse Flat Campground is a rustic, fee-free campground tucked into the Shasta-Trinity National Forest in Trinity County, California. The campground offers 10 sites, with four accommodating trailers up to 16 feet in length. Access is via a 2-mile dirt road off Eagle Creek Loop Road. Each site is equipped with a fire ring with grill and a picnic table, and vault toilets are provided. This is a dry camping destination with no potable water available, so visitors must bring an adequate supply. The campground includes a corral suited for up to 10 pack stock, making it an ideal staging area for horse camping and backcountry trips into the Trinity Alps Wilderness. The Eagle Creek Trail departs directly from the campground. Horse Flat operates seasonally from the week prior to Memorial Day Weekend through October 31. Dogs are permitted on a 6-foot or shorter leash. The campground is first-come, first-served with no reservation system.
Directions
From Weaverville, take State Route 3 north for 41 miles. Take the second Eagle Creek Loop Road turnoff, turn right at the T-intersection, pass Eagle Creek Campground, and continue on the dirt road for 2 miles to Horse Flat Campground.
