About

Horse Flat Campground is a primitive, no-fee campground situated in the Shasta-Trinity National Forest along Eagle Creek Loop Road. Located approximately 41 miles north of Weaverville, this remote site offers 10 camping units, with four sites able to accommodate trailers up to 16 feet. The campground requires a 2-mile drive on a dirt road past Eagle Creek Campground to reach. The campground serves as an access point to the Trinity Alps Wilderness, with the Eagle Creek Trail departing directly from the site. Equestrians will appreciate the corrals that can accommodate up to 10 pack stock, making this a popular staging area for backcountry trips. Each site includes a fire ring with grill and picnic table. Additional sites are located across the main road near the creek. As a dry camping site, no potable water is available, though water can be treated or filtered from nearby Eagle Creek. Vault toilets are provided. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no reservation system. Dogs must be leashed to 6 feet or less.

Directions

From Weaverville, take State Route 3 north for 41 miles. Take the second Eagle Creek Loop Road turnoff. Turn right at the T-intersection. Pass Eagle Creek Campground. Continue on dirt road for 2 miles to Horse Flat Campground.
