About
Preacher Meadow Campground sits along Swift Creek in the Shasta-Trinity National Forest, about 27 miles north of Weaverville. This quiet and serene facility is designed as a horse camp and attracts hikers due to its proximity to the popular Swift Creek trailhead. The campground features two large loops meandering through mature cedar, ponderosa pine, and some deciduous trees, with the first loop servicing 44 sites and a second loop providing capacity for 16 additional sites that generally remains closed.
This is a very primitive campground with vault toilets and no drinking water available. Each campsite includes a Klamath Oven (stone fire ring), picnic table, and fire ring with grill on top. Sites have paved road access with unsurfaced spurs, and back-in lengths average around 16 feet. Highway 3 traffic noise can be heard throughout the campground. The area offers excellent access to hiking trails, Swift Creek, and Trinity Lake recreation including boating, fishing, sailing, and water skiing. Trinity Lake features smallmouth bass, largemouth bass, rainbow trout, catfish, kokanee salmon, and Chinook salmon.
