About

Kangaroo Lake Campground sits at approximately 6,500 feet elevation in the Klamath National Forest, offering 18 campsites surrounding a pristine 25-acre mountain lake. The campground includes 13 drive-in sites and 5 walk-in sites, with accessible facilities including a paved quarter-mile trail leading directly to the lake. The lake itself is 110 feet deep and allows non-motorized boats, though no boat ramp is provided. The campground provides vault toilets, potable water, and bear-proof food storage lockers. Each site includes standard amenities with opportunities for fishing, swimming, hiking, and wildlife viewing. The area is designated as bear country, requiring proper food storage at all times. A quarter-mile interpretive trail and access to the Pacific Crest Trail add to the recreation opportunities. Due to the high elevation, access is determined by snow levels, with the campground typically operating seasonally from mid-June through October. The remote location requires travel on Callahan-Gazelle Road and Rail Creek Road, with the final 8 miles on forest roads from the signed turnoff.

Directions

From Callahan, take Callahan-Gazelle Road for approximately 10 miles to Rail Creek Road. Look for the Kangaroo Lake sign and follow Rail Creek Road 8 miles to the campground.
